So far, I have not experienced any challenges within my project, but I have been working independently. I understand that this isn't always going to be the case. This next week I am going to have to sit back and listen while remaining neutral to the subject until I can collect all of my data. However, I am looking forward to speaking with my teachers and peers and blogging about my experience.

Beginning My Project
As I have begun tackling the challenges our music program is currently facing, I have already established my goals and my plan of action. My next task is to get feedback from the music staff, music students, and administration. I have decided to do interviews to organize everybody's thoughts. After the interviews have been conducted I will carefully analyze the results and hopefully begin to identify a common problem.

I think you are off to a great start...
I went back and read your posts in order, and you mentioned that change is always positive and that it could be dangerous to force change where it is not needed. You clearly are passionate about improving the music education program - what if your interviews and data collection lead to a conclusion that change is not needed? Do you stand by your beleif that something is broken or do you concede to the data collected? How do you know when to push and when to back off?
This is part of what makes leadership different from management. Great managers can implement something well, but are unable to determine when it is best to implement and when to hold in reserve. Someone said "good managers do things right, good leaders do the right things."
For those of us who are driven to make change happen, how do we know we're fighting the right battles?
As of now the music program is not run the way I would like to see it run. Personally, I see many problems with it and that is why I am now pursuing change. However, I do understand that this isn't the "World of Allyssa." I am taking the initiative to get my voice out there and I will do whatever I can to improve the music program but if my solution isn't the best for South Western I will respect that.
As long as people are willing to listen to what I have to say I will feel like I have accomplished something.
I can't promise that I'll go through this process always doing things right but deep down, I know I'm doing the right thing by stepping up and letting my voice be heard.
Thank you for your insight! :)
